Welcome to Dragon Hoard, where there are Hoards for all.
Some say there are no Hoards. They look to the Ancient Days and wish it were like that, where Gold was sitting in riverbeds and caverns for the taking (for as such does Nostalgia weave her memories). All Hoards have been taken, divided up among the Five Families. Any “Hoards” that do remain are under the guard of pet Dragons to avoid the Tax Man, and to give coming-of-age sham adventures to the Family Heirs.
Some say there are no Dragons. And in their little worlds, perhaps this is true. For if they keep their feet to their own roads, shut their eyes to the world beyond, and close their ears to Tales Innumerable of Dragon-lore then this must be the case. And if they have no Treasure, no self-respecting Dragon would bestir himself to disabuse them of this falsehood, for while Dragons may not be wise, they are crafty.
Some say there are no Heroes. That Man is weaker now; that all the Dragons that could be beaten, have already been beaten. Anyone who does seek to become a Hero is taking food and bread from the others without recompense, and pursuing vainglory through fruitless wanderings.
I say there are Hoards aplenty, and they should be plundered and Transmuted into Treasures. I say Dragons still walk the earth, and they must be Dispossessed. I say the World is full of Heroes, and they will rise up, Dispossess the Dragons and Transmute the Treasures.
And I say you can become one of those Heroes, if you so decide. I endeavor to walk this path myself, and record here what I and others have found helpful in our journeys.
The road is long and full of many turns. The end is not seen from the beginning. But he who seeks shall find: happy inns along the way, friends fast won in hardship, and Treasure beyond imagination.
Some say that there is no Treasure, just Hoards passed from a Dragon to a Killer. That Treasure is beyond our ken: best kept a Secret, bound in the Bosom of the Earth.
I say Treasure is a Tool, like a Smith’s hammer or a Plowman’s blade. Many things of strength and beauty have come from Treasure well wielded, and learning how to do so is a Hero’s final task.
I say the World could use a few more Heroes. I say the Time has never been better.
What say you?
